FATIYA - Fatiya has been working at the farm for the past 5 years. With her wages, she was able to add a tin roof to her house and is able to send her daughter to school for the first time. She also has enough free time to enjoy her passion, writing poetry.

PIUS - Pius was in business school when he had his first seizure. He felt he had to leave school then and was unemployed for several years. He now works at the farm and used his wages to start his own pigsty.

THE REHAB FARM - For ten years, the Mahenge Epilepsy Clinic Rehabilitation Farm has hired people with epilepsy to grow vegetables and tend to animals like pigs, goats and guinea pigs. The supervisor, Father Placid Kindata, teaches the workers basic farming skills and coordinates with the epilepsy nurse to make sure program participants are taking their medications every day. For many of our program participants, this is the first time they have held a job. Earning a wage means gaining respect in their communities and supporting their families. Father Placid reports, "Many people [in the community] admire them now; they have a better social status and are also becoming more independent."

Thank you for your support! In 2020, the farm got an upgrade with a drip irrigation system. The drip irrigation system allows the farm to grow vegetables even during the dry season. This means that people with epilepsy are employed all year round and that the farm provides much-needed nutrients when food is scarce, preventing malnutrition in the community.
